Operations apps for Shopify stores that make things to order.

Real ship dates, honest capacity, fewer angry emails.

Hakanai builds the operations side of a Shopify store for people who make what they sell. Capacity, lead times, pre-orders, stock that comes back in its own time: the apps handle them the way a workshop actually runs, so the storefront tells customers what is true. Each app is on the Shopify App Store, installs in an afternoon, and is supported by the people who wrote it.

What we build

Three rules every Hakanai app is built to.

01

Operations, not marketing

Apps for the part of the store that starts after the order: capacity, lead times, the queue of work. The storefront only promises what the workshop can do.

02

Built around how makers work

Small batches, long lead times, pieces that don’t exist until someone orders them. No inventory count to invent, no “ships in 3 weeks” to apologise for.

03

Small apps, done properly

One job per app, finished before it ships. Fast product pages, no theme code edits, nothing left behind after uninstall.

03

Apps

Every app is a sheet in one drawing set: one job each, the same support commitments, the same data handling, the same way of installing. Live apps are listed with their App Store ratings. Apps in development sit in the index until they ship, and nothing is announced before it works.

Kiln

Real ship dates for made-to-order stores, from your queue.

Kiln replaces the static lead time on a product page with a date worked out from your weekly capacity and the orders already waiting. Customers see the day their piece will ship before they pay, and hear from you if that day moves.

  • Ship dates calculated from weekly capacity and the current queue
  • Pre-orders for pieces that don’t exist yet, no inventory tracking
  • Date-change emails to affected customers, written plainly
  • Back-in-stock alerts for pieces made in runs

Support

An app for a working shop has to be answered by someone who can fix it. These are the commitments every Hakanai app ships with, written down so you can hold us to them.

When you write in, you reach someone who knows the code behind the app you’re using. The answer is a fix, not a ticket number. Most questions are answered the same day; the twelve-hour figure is the ceiling, not the aim.

Updates are small and frequent rather than large and rare. The monthly changelog says what changed in plain language, and Shopify API upgrades land each quarter without anything for you to do. If something is down, the status page says so before you have to ask.

What merchants say

Reviews are quoted from the Shopify App Store as written. None are paid for, discounted for, or asked for in exchange for anything.

R-01
The dates on our product pages are finally ones we can keep. The where-is-my-order emails have mostly stopped.
— Northfield Ceramics, small-batch pottery
R-02
Set up on a Sunday. When I had a question, the reply came back the same evening with a fix.
— Ashgrove Joinery, made-to-order furniture
R-03
We cap what we can sew each week and Kiln works out the rest. No more promising three weeks and taking six.
— Linen & Pin, tailored shirts
